jaGuard - Internet Monitoring Bot, Help Page
If you are viewing this page, then you probably have been visited by
our monitoring bot. jaGuard bot is a program that surfs only those URLs
that are registered in its monitoring list, which means that it
monitors only the customers of jaGuard.net.
However, there can be cases when the website owner is unaware of
being present in this list due to various reasons. Thus, the following
questions might arise:
Why is my website being visited by your bot?
As we have already mentioned, jaGuard bot visits only those URLs
that are officially signed up for our monitoring service. However,
from time to time, our technical team may carry out test monitoring of
the randomly chosen hosts to ensure that the service is functioning
properly. If you think that this has been the case with your website,
please, contact us to prevent monitoring in the future.
Very often online resources are being sold to new owners and for
some reason the old ones do not inform their buyers about the web
resource being actively monitored by jaGuard.net. To find out if your
newly purchased web-host is registered with our monitoring service,
please, contact our technical support team.
Why does jaGuard bot visit only particular pages of my website?
jaGuard bot is programmed to monitor only those URLs that are listed
in the service registration form. If there is no particular URL
registered, but only a web-host name, the bot will automatically
monitor the index page of the website. To change URLs you wish to
monitor, please, go to your personalized customer area and make
necessary changes. If you do not know how to do that, please, contact our technical support team.
Does jaGuard bot follow robot.txt?
jaGuard bot is not an automatic web indexing program aimed to
crawl random websites. It is a specially designed monitoring program
that visits only those hosts that are officially subscribed to the
jaGuard.net monitoring services. For this reason it does not follow any robot.txt.
If you wish to prevent your website from being visited by jaGuard
bot, we recommend you to delete desired URL from the monitoring list in
your personal customer area or cease your subscription to jaGuard.net
services completely. If you are unaware of being signed up to the
jaGuard.net monitoring service, and our bot is unwelcome on your web
host, please, to avoid any conflict or misunderstanding, first make
sure that none of your colleagues or friends has signed up this URL for
our monitoring services, then contact our technical support team and describe them the existing problem.
How much traffic does jaGuard bot consume while checking my website?
When retrieving information on your website performance, jaGaurd bot
uses the HEAD method of request. The HEAD method is identical to GET
except that the server must not return a message body in the response,
which means reducing information down to general statistics lines.
Altogether it makes up approximately 250-400 bites per visit. And even
in that case there will be "0 bites" in your log files, which means no
charge from your web-hosting company for extra traffic. For more
information on HEAD and GET methods, please, go to ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc2068.txt (see under 9.3 and 9.4).
How can I start monitoring with jaGuard bot?
If you are an existing customer of jaGuard.net, but your registered web-host is not being monitored by our service, please, contact out technical support team
and describe them the problem. If you are not a customer of
jaGuard.net, you can initiate monitoring by purchasing our service and
customizing the monitoring options in the personalized customer area.
Best regards,
jaGuard.net technical support team.
